Around 2000 media professionals to cover Commonwealth Games

Around 800 international and 1200 domestic media personnel are expected to cover the Common wealth Games Delhi scheduled to be held in the capital from October 3 to 14.

As compared to 1562 Media accreditations for the Melbourne Games in 2006, around 2000 accreditations will be made for Delhi 2010.

Saina, Chetan to lead badminton challenge in CWG

Ace shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Chetan Anand will spearhead the Indian challenge in the badminton event of the Delhi Common wealth Games , from October 3 to 14.

World No 3 Saina, one of India's medal hopes, and 2010 Asian Badminton Championship quarter-finalist Aditi Mutatkar will represent the country in women's singles.

2006 Melbourne Games bronze medallist Chetan Anand will lead India in the men's singles, along with P Kashyap, who reached the semi-finals of the Singapore Super Series in June.

Commonwealth Games: Indian Wrestlers fail in Dope Test

The four wrestlers tested positive in the dope test. They were identified as Sumit (74kg Men), Mausam Khatri (96kg Men), Rajiv Tomar (120kg Men) and Kaur (72kg Women).

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) provisionally suspended the wrestlers, pending inquiry. The wrestlers tested positive for a banned substance called Methylhexanamine. They cannot participate in the Common wealth Games, although they can appeal against the test results.

NDMC spends R222 crore on consultancy for Games

In its first public disclosure under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has said it paid over R 200 crore to consultants for Common wealth Games 2010-related work since 2006. The Central Information Commission (CIC) had asked all government bodies to disclose information regarding works undertaken for the Games on its website.

The NDMC was given a deadline till August-end, whereas the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi government have a Sep-end deadline.

Indian boxing federation announces team for Commonwealth Games and Asian Games

The selection trials for Commonwealth Games 2010 and Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 were held successfully at the newly renovated airconditioned training hall at NS NIS Patiala from 26 – 28 August 2010.

A total of 44 boxers from the core group participated in these trials. It was the first time that the selection trials were held like a full fledged championship with international referees and judges assisting the seven member selection committee & jury to pick up the best boxers to represent India at CWG 2010 and Asian Games 2010.
