2010 Commonwealth Games, Aquatics

The prestigious international event i.e. the Commonwealth Games happens every 4 years where nations from all over the world participate. 31 sports and 7 "Para- sports" are played at the Games, in total. Commonwealth Games Federation has approved these sports, which has been further divided into 3 kinds. These are the Core sports, Recognized sports and Optional sports.
Among the 17 disciplines of sports that have been planned to be played at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, one is Aquatics. Aquatics have been taking place in Commonwealth Games, since a long time. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the aquatics are scheduled to be held from 4th to 13th October at the "Swimming Pool Complex" of the "Talkatora Gardens" in Delhi. The discipline of aquatics has been further sub-divided into the following categories.

Swimming
Diving
Synchronized Swimming

There are in total 56 set of medals in the discipline of aquatics that will be competed for at the 2010 Games. 68 players can be sent in total by the Commonwealth Games Associations to compete for the aquatic event.

Swimming
Swimming is a core sport. There will be 44 swimming events that will take place at 2010 Commonwealth Games from 4th to 9th October. 3 swimmers at the maximum can participate in the individual swimming event whereas 1 team can take part in the relays.
Relays: 4X100 m freestyle, 4X200 m freestyle, 4X100 m medley
Individual medley: 200 m, 400 m
Butterfly: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m

Breaststroke: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m
Backstroke: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m
Freestyle: 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m (only women), 1500 m (only men)
Certain paralympic events in swimming will also take place for the disabled athletes. These are:
Women's 100 m butterfly - S9
Women's 100 m freestyle - S9
Women's 50 m freestyle - S9
Men's 100 m freestyle - S10
Men's 100 m freestyle - S8
Men's 50 m freestyle - S9
Diving
Diving comes under optional sport. There will be 10 diving events that will be held at the 2010 Commonwealth Games from 10th to 13th October for men as well as women. 3 divers can enter in a particular event while two pairs of players can participate in the synchronized events

Synchronized Swimming

Synchronized Swimming comes under optional sport. There will be 2 events in synchronized swimming that will take place on 6th and 7th October, 2010. The events will be both duet and solo and will be meant only for women. 3 swimmers can participate in solo synchronized swimming event and one pair of swimmers can participate in duet synchronized swimming event.
The various training events that will be used for the purpose of aquatic events are Games Village, MDC National Stadium Complex, Yamuna Sports Complex and Siri Fort Sports Complex.
