2010 Commonwealth Games, Wrestling

Wrestling is one of the optional sports which have been recognized at the Commonwealth Games. Wrestling involves many styles like the Free-Style and Greco-Roman. It featured for the first time at the Commonwealth Games of 1930. This particular sport event has seen a considerable rise in the number of nations participating in it. It had increased from 3 to 17 countries in the year 2002. Wrestling did not appear at the Commonwealth Games of 2006 but will surely make a return at the Commonwealth Games of 2010 to be held in Delhi, India. Some brilliant wrestlers from all over the world will compete for a hard fought championship.


The various categories in wrestling are as follows.

Free Style & Greco Roman
•55kg
•60kg
•66kg
•74kg
•84kg
•96kg
•120kg

7 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals will be at stake for the wrestling event. The wrestling sport event will take place at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. The training grounds for this purpose are Games Village, Sri Ram College of Commerce for Women and Ludlow Castle. Wrestling was also a part of the Pune 2008 "Commonwealth Youth Games". The event will be held from 5th to 10th October, 2010.

With some brilliant wrestlers, who performed wonderfully well at the "Beijing Olympic", India is expected to perform well in this event with some medals to its name.
