CWG 2010 records most expensive games

The Delhi Common wealth Games 2010 was a huge triumph with praises flowing in from across the world. But reports have showed it was also the costliest Games held in recent times.During the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, 2006, upgradation of 17 projects and creating new infrastructure came to a small more than 5,000 crore rupees.

The Australian government spent around 800 crore rupees upgrading most of the venues like the Melbourbne Cricket ground, which hosted the Opening and the Closing ceremonies.The Bejing Olympics 2008 was more expensive. Rupees 28,000 crores were spent constructing more than a dozen venues, eight temporary venues and the Games Village.

However, for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the establishment spent around a whopping 70,000 crore rupee for building infrastructure like roads and flyovers, a new airport terminal and renovating stadia like the JN Stadium and Major Dhyanchand Stadium and constructing a few new ones like the Tyagraj Stadium, new venues at the Indira Gandhi Stadium and building the Games Village.
