Asian Games 2010: India's 1st gold medal

Guangzhou Asian Games 2010 medal tally: India's 1st gold medal. India captured its first gold in weightlifting in the 16th Asian Games on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Srinivasa Rao Balluri won the men’s 56 kg weightlifting event while his compatriot Sukhen Dey won the silver for the same event.Whereas, Gagan Narang, 27, the hero of the recent Common wealth Games in Delhi, won the silver award in the 10m air rifle individual event and then teamed up with Bindra and Sanjeev Rajput to add another silver in the team affair.

Narang, could not surpass the world record of 703.5 that he holds and shot a score of 700.7 (597+103.7) to clear up for silver behind China's Qinan Zhu (598+104).“The Chinese are always strong in shooting, but this is a sport where the contest is within yourself not the other guy,” said Narang.Meanwhile, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal opened the game by beating Indonesia’s Adriyanti Firdasari in the women's badminton team event.

Nehwal, who captured gold last month at the Common wealth Games in New Delhi, won her match 21-16, 21-17, but not enough to thwart her team from going down 3-2 overall."I don't want to think much about it," said the 20-year-old from Hyderabad and the first Indian woman to win a Super Series title. "I just want to take one game at a time and do my best."
