Asian Games: Shooters bag first award

The stars of the 2010 Delhi Common wealth Games, Indian shooters, kick started their Asian Games campaign at Guangzhou on Saturday (November 13) on a promising note. Indian team of Gagan Narang, Sanjeev Rajput and Abhinav Bindra bagged a silver medal in the Men's 10 meter air rifle event. India lost the gold award to the Chinese shooting team.

Earlier today, in the 50 meter air pistol event, India's Amanpreet Singh, Commonwealth Games gold award winner Omkar Singh and Deepak Sharma failed to put up a winning performance. India finished 5th in the event with Korea winning gold in the event. In women's 10 meter air rifle event, India's medal view Tejaswani Sawant also failed to impress along with Kavitha Yadav and Suma Shirur.

The Indian men's badminton team were in action against Chinese Taipei in the round one of the team event. It started on a bad note with Arvind Bhat going down in the starter of the tie. Things weren't any better in the first of the men’s doubles ties as A Dewalkar and ST Aratukulam too lost to their fancied opponents.

However, in some hope, P Kashyap gave won a tight match in three games to keep India in the tie. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal triumphed in the women's group event. In the women's tie between India and Indonesia, Saina gave India a winning start by beating Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16 21-17 in the first singles match in just 30 minutes. Saina was extremely good at net as she hit 16 winners to nine of her Indonesian opponent.
