Gymnastics was for the first time introduced in the 1978 Commonwealth Games, held in Edmonton in Canada. However, years 1982 and 1986 did not see the inclusion of gymnastics in Commonwealth Games. The reason for this was that this sporting event is not a core sport of the Games; it is an optional event, meaning that it can or cannot be included in the curriculums of the Commonwealth Games. Since the 1998 Commonwealth Games that took place in Auckland in New Zealand, Gymnastics has remained a part of this grand sporting event. This event is included in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Delhi.
