CWG 2010: Best ever Commonwealth record scored by Indians

The athletes of the host nation have been giving brilliant performances in almost all the disciplines at the Delhi Games, but this one is mainly important. In a time span of just an hour, Indian shooters clinched 4 medals, two gold and two silver medals in the competitions that concluded this morning. The winners of the gold medals are Heena Sudhu and Annu Raj Singh in the 10 metre air pistol duo events.

The venue, Karni Singh Shooting Range, witnessed the Indian shooters to set a Common wealth Games record in New Delhi. This gold medal elevated the medal tally of Team India to 31 gold medals, while it was the 14th gold medal won by Indian shooters.The other two medals (silver) were won by the world champion Teaswini Sawant in the women’s 50 metre prone event and Samresh Jung and Chandrasekhar Kumar Chaudhry in the 25 metres normal pistol duo event.

The gold medal was clinched by the Indian athletes in the women’s 10 metre air pistol on grounds of count back. Formerly, there was a tie between India, Canada and Australia in this occasion, since all the three teams had 759 points. Canada could just manage to win the bronze medal since the team had a few number of 10s out of the 14 that its shot. Meanwhile, Australia and India both had 21.
